The Broadway in South Africa 5th Anniversary Celebration, which will include a star-studded concert & original music based on essays and letters from South African students who participate in their youth development programs, will take place in New York City's Prince George Ballroom on Monday, May 6th, 2013.
"A cross cultural exchange between youth in need and artists who seek to use their talents for change", Broadway in South Africa uses the arts to empower youth with the skills, determination and ideas to lead and impact a generation.
Performers and composers from the stage and screen, as well as music industry professionals, will donate their talent for the evening to support this cause. Early confirmed performers include Tony Nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (Motown: The Musical, The Scottsboro Boys, The Color Purple), Youtube Sensation Frankie James Grande (Mamma Mia), Sean Bradford (The Lion King, The Scottsboro Boys), Christopher Spaulding (The Nutty Professor, Curtains), Emma Hunton (Next to Normal, Spring Awakening), Courtney Reed (Aladdin, In The Heights), and Shoshana Bean (Wicked, Hairspray) who recently released her sophomore album O'Farrell Street. Early composer additions include Jeremy Schonfeld and Grammy Award Nominee Ryan Shaw. Sonny Paladino (Pippin) will serve as Music Director, with Tim Drucker and Frankie Grande as Co-Directors. Additional guests will be announced shortly.
This year, one original song featured at the event will be chosen via social media submissions. Until March 20th, all are invited to submit their compositions to Broadway in South Africa via YouTube, and one winner will have their song featured at the NYC event.
